Early August - Chumming with Charlie and Cindy

The crazy nomadic Burtons are on the road once again after suffering from wanderlust. Can you hear that Steamboat whistle in the background?

There were just too many goings-on back home to count; they included medical challenges for Lenny’s mom, multiple eye doctor visits for both Lizzy and Lenny, plumbing repairs and a new battery and fresh new coolant for Jethro. Oh…and, lest we forget…we are without a motorcycle for the first time in eight (8) years. Yep, both bikes were purchased by none other than Rick Fairless at Strokers. Thank you Rick for the purchase and Beth for the lead.

Footloose and fancy-free we joined forces with fun friends Charlie and Cindy and headed north to Steamboat Springs. The trip up brought back memories of motorcycling fun because we caravanned and connected by FRS radio along the way. Charlie has Hilton connections and we stayed in first-class reservations on the way up stopping in Lubbock and Taos, NM. Many thanks for spoiling us, C&C!

We caravanned for an easy three-day jaunt to Steamboat Springs.
Here we are heading across New Mexico

Charlie and Cindy have circled around back at Overland Sheepskin in Taos, NM

Charlie and Cindy have done a fair bit of road tripping in their time, but had not spent much time here in “The Boat.” We’ve had fun tooling around together, hitting our favorite haunts and hot spots. The first few days have been rather hazy. Seems there are two forest fires just south of Steamboat and the California fires are sending smoke signals our way as well. That said, The Boat still hasn’t lost its charm…nor its fair share of tourists.

Just up Hwy 129 from The Boat we stopped for refreshments along the road in Clark, CO

Outside the entrance to the Clark General Store we encountered a Hummingbird happening.

Thinking about downsizing and moving to Steamboat?? Here's Option "A"

Jethro has graciously chauffeured us on a couple of sightseeing adventures up into the mountains. One day began on a rather soggy note, but Jethro didn’t mind taking a mud bath for the team. In the following pics we’re headed off-road between Phippsburg and Meeker, CO. Fun day!!

Jethro's always "up" for a climb...

Smoky, clousy day in the Rockies

Thus far, our adventures with C&S have included:

  • Tooling around town both afoot and aJethro
  • Afternoon visits to Carl’s for the planet’s best libations (Old Fashioned atop the list)
  • Popping pimento cheese sandwiches
  • Touring Hahn’s Peak and Steamboat Springs Park
  • Off-road day-trip to Stagecoach Park and the high country
  • Scoping out Steamboat from atop Vaquero’s rooftop restaurant
  • Friday rainy-Night art walk
  • Saturday Steamboat Farmer’s Market outside our front door - can you smell the baked goods?
  • Brunch along side the Yampa River just across the street from our abode
  • Touring the Steamboat Ski area and beyond
  • Learning things from Charlie - (he’s a guy that knows things)
  • Intermittent naps in our cozy condo
  • Waking to Lizzy’s yummy omelettes
  • The Ladies lurking around the free concert on the ski hill across the street
  • And last, but certainly not least, witnessing the Steamboat PRCA Rodeo.
  • Whew!!
  • Oh… and learning more stuff from Charlie (he’s a guys that knows things)

Ever heard of the "Lost Sheep"...well now they're found!

Cute couple we found on top of the world between Phippsburg and Meeker Colorado.

We offered them a lift since they looked lost atop the mountain. Jethro even accommodated them which is a step up for him...

Many thanks for sharing your time with us. We’ve loved having you here in “THE BOAT!” Please come again.

Making the most of a moist evening in The Boat

Into every life a little rain must fall...

Stay tuned...life's good here in The Boat
